Yahoo! Glue Launches in America
Back in May, Yahoo launched a new variant of search entitled “Glue,” something which combines news, images, videos, and other content from around the Web (and other Yahoo properties) along with traditional search results that link to web pages.
An outbreak of wildfires in California’s Santa Barbara County has reached national news feeds and sparked Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to declare a state of emergency after the crisis in Montecito, quelled late on Friday by response units, was followed by a growing emergency in Sylmar.

Many people decorate their workspace with pictures of their families. Often, these photos serve as a good conversation piece. But, what if you could have a life-sized cutout of your kids, playing sports? That’s where StickyFan comes in.
Citysearch is finally coming around to replacing its creaking site design with something a little more contemporary. Today, it is launching in a major rethink of its entire site in beta
that drills deeper into neighborhoods, uses Facebook Connect as an optional identity system, and lets users vote reviews up and down. The beta will quickly become the default Citysearch
experience. During a demo at IAC headquarters yesterday, Citysearch CEO Jay Herratti told me:

It’s wonderful to see people doing what they love. Jay Maynard, for instance, loves dressing up in spandex and turning on his Tron lights for all and sundry. Sure, he’s no Eva Longaria but isn’t it great to know that Microsoft has this guy on their side? He could literally blow up Master Apple in a few minutes with a well-placed discus throw.
Yelp’s Google Analytics stats for the past thirty days show 15.8 million unique visitors, way above the six million Comscore records. I’ve Got Good News and Bad News - Mashable
It’s been an interesting couple of weeks, and an interesting day, too, as it turns out. As I alternate this evening between scrolling through the editorial inbox, the corporate newsfeeds, it’s hard not to notice a couple of seemingly diametrically opposed trends taking place. As is expected from the climate of fear that came as a result of Sequoia’s “RIP Good Times” slide deck and the monumental losses last week on Wall Street, many web firms are laying off staff.

A reader, Darrin (from ReverseMortgageGuides), who says he spends about $100,000/month on Google adwords received a voicemail from a Cleary Gottlieb lawyer named Donald Burke. Burke says he’s representing Google in the Yahoo advertising deal. The message, linked below (with part of the phone number toned out), says: “Hi Darren my name is Donald Burke. I’m calling on behalf of Google to talk with Adwords advertisers about the new proposed Google/Yahoo Advertising Agreement. If you have a couple of minutes to talk with me, my number is…Thanks very much. Take care.”

Dylan Tube | Blog Search Engine
I have said it once and I will say it again – musicians these days do not seem to compare much to the musicians of old. It’s not that we do not get good music today but I have to admit that majority of new music today do not have the lasting value that music decades ago have. Take for example Bob Dylan, who was part of that generation of musicians who was able to leave their own legacy. His music spans generation. Dylan Tube is a testament of his legacy. A blog that is all about Dylan, his music, life, and performances, Dylan Tube is maintained by a relatively young person. Expect a lot of footage in the blog – something that Dylan fans will certainly enjoy.

MOO's Business Card API And The Mashups Made With It - ReadWriteWeb
The popular and quirky MOO.com is a print shop providing stickers, postcards, business cards and personal introduction cards, which are narrower and longer cards. The products can feature artistic images you select from the site's offerings or can be printed using photos you upload to the service. Stealth Semantic Startup Raises $8.5 Million, Won’t Tell Us Anything
I had a phone call late last week with a semantic startup called Siri that was spun out of SRI International (the birthplace of the computer mouse and the LCD screen, among many other important technologies). Most startups are willing to talk about their products “off the record” but this one wouldn’t divulge much beyond the fact that they’ve raised $8.5 million in Series A funding from Menlo Ventures and Morganthaler.
Slashdot | National Debt Clock Overflowed, Extended By a Digit
"The National Debt Counter, erected in 1989 when the U.S. debt was 'merely' a tiny $2.7 trillion, has been moving so much that it recently ran out of digits to display the ballooning figure: $10,150,603,734,720, or roughly $10.2 trillion, as of Saturday afternoon. To accommodate the extra '1,' the clock was hacked: the '1' from "$10.2" has been moved left to the LCD square once occupied solely by the digital dollar sign. A non-digital, improvised dollar sign has been pasted next to the '1.' It will be replaced in 2009 with a new clock able to track debt up to a quadrillion dollars, which is a '1' followed by 15 zeros. That should be good enough for a few more months at least, I believe."
Slashdot | People Prefer Angry-Faced Cars
"Researchers from the University of Vienna asked 20 males and 20 females to rank vehicles based on their appearance. The list of traits included arrogant, afraid, agreeable, disgusted, extroverted, sad, and others. Cars with 'meaner' traits (such as BMW) ranked higher, whereas cars with 'nicer' traits (such as Toyota's Prius) ranked lower. With billions spent on developing new products in the automobile industry, this could spur a trend in meaner-looking cars and perhaps explain why sales of the Prius and other green cars are slow to take off with average consumers."
Slashdot | YouTube Adds Full-Length Television Shows
"YouTube has moved to put full-length television shows on its site for the first time. Historically, YouTube has hosted a bewildering and attractive variety of video clips, the vast majority of which have been under ten minutes in length. YouTube has announced that it had finalized a deal with CBS to offer shows such as Star Trek, MacGyver, Beverly Hills 90210, and The Young and the Restless. I can't wait to watch The Young and the Restless!"
Slashdot | OpenOffice.org 3.0 Is Officially Here
"After a grinding three-year development cycle, the OpenOffice.org team has finally squeezed out a new release. New features include support for the controversial Microsoft OOXML file format, multi-page views in Writer, and PDF import via an extension. Linux Format has an overview of the new release, asking the question: is it really worth the 3.0 label?"
